Was Craig's marriage a fake?

Craig Revel Horwood beamed with joy on his wedding day in 1985, but was it a sham

Craig, who is now openly gay, tied the knot with Welsh-born Jane and they stayed together for two years.

The Strictly judge has been dogged by claims that the marriage was a sham since mentioning it in his autobiography earlier this year

But last night Jane, 47, insisted they were in love.

Jane - now wed to actor Robert Jezek - told The People: "My marriage to Craig was never a sham. We had a happy and very normal existence for most of our time together. And we are still good friends now."

The pair met while they shared a flat together in Crouch End, north London.

Craig's dad, retired naval officer Phil Horwood, 67, said of his son's wedding: "Craig and Jane looked very much in love, typical newlyweds.

"It was an unconventional wedding. Their theatrical friends came from Paris and all over to celebrate.

"After the ceremony, everyone went into the street and threw wedding cake all over each other in a food fight.

"I was on the wagon at the time and was behind the bar serving all these eccentric actors. It was a great day."

Craig is said to have discovered that he was definitely gay during his marriage to website designer Jane.

But in a phone call yesterday to his father, who lives in Australia, Craig said: "I loved her. We had a normal marriage."
