The real reason John quit Strictly

Jolly John Sergeant quit Strictly Come Dancing yesterday - just in time for an all-expenses-paid Caribbean cruise.

Viewers' favourite John, 64, will perform a flatfooted finale on Saturday's show before joining the P&O liner Oceana six days later. On the £10,000 trip he will give after dinner speeches and show off dance skills. John's berth was booked before the show began - leading some to question the timing of his decision to quit.

But he denied the two were connected, and said: "I do have a contract with a cruise liner to take me through the Panama Canal in a couple of weeks but that didn't have anything to do with it."

The ship visits nine countries in 14 days. P&O said: "No doubt John will give some tango tips."
