New stage role for Maria's Connie
Written by Administrator
Monday, 23 June 2008
Connie Fisher has landed her first stage role since starring as Maria in The Sound Of Music.

The 25-year-old, from Pembrokeshire, found fame when she won the BBC competition to find a star for a new stage production of The Sound of Music.

Fisher will now tread the boards in, They're Playing Our Song, alongside impressionist Alistair McGowan.

The comedy musical is undergoing its first major London revival since the original West End production in 1980.

The semi-autobiographical story is based on the relationship between composer Marvin Hamlisch and lyricist Carole Bayer Sager.

Their characters were originally played by actors Tom Conti and Gemma Craven.

The pair co-wrote the Bond theme Nobody Does It Better and Bayer Sager, who has collaborated with Neil Diamond, Bette Midler and Bob Dylan, also received an Oscar for Arthur's Theme from the 1982 Dudley Moore film.

McGowan's recent West End appearances include Cabaret, The Mikado and Little Shop Of Horrors.

Last month Fisher began filming a TV drama for ITV and will play an Elvis Presley-obsessed parking warden in Caught in a Trap.

The musical is due to run from 4 August to 28 September at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London.
