The results are in! We found out last night that the new champions of Dancing with the Stars are Olympic figure skating gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi and her adorable professional partner Mark Ballas.
Many kudos to the dancing duo. They were definitely, far and away, the most talented couple in the competition this season, garnering high scores and praise from the judges and millions of votes from audiences at home.
Now that the competition is over, we can take a look back at what were some of the best performances of this 2008 season. Obviously, we can probably fill the entire list with all of Kristi and Mark's performances, but there were some other great standouts as well.
Some of my favorites that didn't quite make the list were Jason Taylor and Edyta Sliwinska's Monday Night Football-themed paso doble. Although Jason's technique was not perfect in this routine, Edyta's inventive choreography and costume choice paired with the familiar football theme song.
Cristian de la Fuente was also most definitely a force to reckoned with this season who deserves mention. He was so good that he could do it with one hand tied behind his back! Although he excelled at many of the Latin styles, his and Cheryl Burke's foxtrot in week 6 was particularly good. However, he didn't make my list either because there were just so many other great performances to highlight.
Marissa Jaret Winokur really surprised everyone with how far she went, but she didn't make my list either. Neither did Priscilla Presley or Shannon Elizabeth, although I truly enjoyed watching many of their dances. It's harder than you might think to winnow 95-odd performances down to a short list of five.
