| Eurovision entry is worst ever |

Andy Abraham is the UK's worst ever Eurovision entrant, according to bookmakers. The former X Factor contestant won the public vote to represent the UK in March. Binman-turned-pop star Abraham beat former EastEnder Michelle Gayle with his own song, Even If, in the UK heat. But William Hill has now made the 43-year-old a 66-1 outsider to win, which it says is the longest price the UK has ever had. The odds come as Eurovision presenter Terry Wogan dubbed Abraham's song "the best UK entry for a while". But he told the Radio Times: "If we finish nowhere again, I worry that disenchantment might take hold. "Eurovision is such silly fun, and I love doing it, but if the enthusiasm isn't there... "This year is pretty crucial for me. Eurovision without Royaume-Uni would be unfortunate." Last year's contenders, Scooch, finished a disastrous 22nd out of 24 with their song Flying The Flag. William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: "We have three times as much money on the UK getting nil points at 16/1 than we do for the UK winning Eurovision but Russia is definitely our enemy again." The odds come after the Danish director of Eurovision TV, the Swiss-based company which produces the competition, complained that Wogan does not treat the show with enough respect. Bjorn Erichsen suggested that Wogan's wry observations were making Eurovision look "ridiculous". He said earlier this month: "Terry Wogan is a problem because he makes it ridiculous. I know he is very popular, and maybe that is the reason why a lot of people watch. But one day he will have to retire and the BBC will have to find someone else. It will be interesting to see if that attitude changes." The 53rd Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Belgrade, Serbia, on Saturday. Source |
