Sam meets with Dirty Dancing star Sarah Manton As part of her preparations for last week's performance, Sam paid a visit to West End star Sarah Manton, who plays Baby in the musical version of Dirty Dancing. We had a quick chat with Sarah... Can you tell us a little bit about the work you did with the Sam? 'We talked through her song from an acting point of view and discussed the importance of self belief. We also talked about the realities and demands of performing in a leading role for eight shows a week.' Why are these skills so important for West End actors? 'In order to communicate the story truthfully to the audience, you have to genuinely connect with the material. It's a very subjective industry and you can't please everyone all the time so maintaining your own self-belief is vital.' Do you think the experience has helped Sam? 'She took on board everything I said and had lots of questions of her own. She seemed to gain confidence from the experience.' Does anyone in the competition stand out? 'I only met Sam, but I think she would make an excellent Nancy. She is a very mature and together young lady, who is obviously very talented but has her feet firmly on the ground. I can't imagine many 17-year-olds being ready to play a lead in the West End but I genuinely think Sam is.' What qualities do you think make a good Nancy? 'Someone with a down-to-earth nature and a sense of fun. She'll fight to survive and be loyal against all odds.' Source |
