Blackpool is backing its home grown talent with a show of support for singing sensation Jodie Prenger who has won through to the final six of the BBC1 search to find a new West End star.

Jodie, 28, who is winning the hearts of the nation, this week faces another challenge to stay the I'd Do Anything! course and take a step nearer to her dream of playing Nancy in Cameron Mackintosh's revival of Oliver!

Blackpool Mayor Robert Wynne is rallying Jodie's fans for a show of support tomorrow – gathering on the Promenade opposite Blackpool Tower at 1pm.

The mayor appealed to the town to vote for Jodie.

"We are all supporting Jodie because she represents the fun side of Blackpool. Always smiling, with a big voice, she's what Blackpool is all about."

Jodie's mum Madeleine, of Newton Drive, Blackpool, said: "Jodie will be thrilled. She feels so lucky to be in the competition and to show Blackpool really does have talent."
