Blue Peter presenter Gethin Jones won an army of new fans when he danced his way into the semi-final of Strictly Come Dancing. The Welshman's latest project is as host of E24, which is BBC News 24's look at the best of the week's entertainment stories, plus a peek at the stories to come in the following days. The 30-year-old star talks about dressing up as a mermaid and his dancing success. Q: So tell us about E24. E24 brings you the latest entertainment news. But what I like about it is that it looks at things from a different angle. You'll definitely discover something about someone that you didn't know before. Q: What has been your most difficult Blue Peter assignment? The Royal Marine 30-mile Commando Yomp - eight hours and 20 minutes of running and walking across Dartmoor with 15kg (33lbs) of weight on your back. It was the toughest thing I've ever done. Q: And the most embarrassing? Dressing up as a mermaid in Battersea Park. Q: And the most enjoyable? Meeting some fantastic people. Also, I'm filming a horseracing film with Blue Peter at the moment. It feels like I've known my trainer, Sparksy, for years. I trust him with my life - I have no choice. Q: Have you ever turned down a Blue Peter challenge? Never. Q: What has been the public reaction to your appearance on Strictly Come Dancing? Every other person still comes up to say hello or to want to have a chat about what happened. Strictly is hugely popular and I loved every second. Q: What was the highlight and lowlight of appearing in the show? Highlight was the turning point, halfway through, when I just got a bit of confidence and enjoyed it so much more. The lowlight was obviously going out in the semi-final. And seeing Kenny Logan in a kilt. Q: Were you very disappointed to come third in the competition? If you'd have said to me at the start I would've got to the knockout rounds, I would have laughed my head off. So, although we were gutted to go in the semis, to get that far, for someone who couldn't dance for toffee, was an amazing feeling. Q: You were very musical at school and took A-Levels in biology, geography and economics. Is there anything you are not good at? Plenty. I would've put dancing at the top of the list a couple of months ago. I can't ice skate and I was rubbish at steering a gondola in Venice. Q: What was the strangest job you did before you started working in television? I was a ground worker, fitting pipes 6ft (1.8m) underground in heavy rain. Q: Did you always want to be famous when you were younger? No way. I've been given an incredible opportunity and I appreciate it every day. I love what I do and have come to really enjoy the process of making a TV programme. Q: Is it true that you get mistaken for T4's Steve Jones a lot? I've had it for a very long time. I saw him the other day and he said that everyone thinks he did Strictly Come Dancing. Q: What are your professional and personal ambitions? Professionally, my aim is to work hard and continue making great TV programmes and also to start my business with my friend. Personally, just staying happy and healthy.
