Breakfast's Natasha Kaplinsky has won the BBC's pro-celebrity dancing contest, Strictly Come Dancing
More than 2.5 million votes were cast in the final on Saturday July 3. And apparently the show's success has led half a million new recruits to take up ballrooom dancing. Monday's Breakfast spoke to Natasha and Darren, and to runner up Christopher Parker and judge Arlene Phillips Before the final, Natasha gave us her thoughts How do you feel about having got so far? I can't quite believe that I'm in the finals. I keep thinking someone is playing a joke. I have fallen in love with dancing and it has been a fantastic experience. How many rehearsals have you done and how have you fitted them in with the rest of your working life? When we were approached by the show's producers, they said the dance preparations would take 2-3 hours a week. I've just looked at my training schedule, and over the last ten weeks I have done 180 hours. It is a huge commitment. It has not fitted into the rest of my life, as I still have to get up at 03.20am for my Breakfast shifts! What effect is ballroom dancing having on you? I didn't expect it would have such a big one. I have 27 bruises, and am so shattered that I am asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. Will you continue with ballroom dancing after this show? The show has dominated my life. It will leave a huge hole in my life. As to continuing with ballroom dancing, I can only dance with one man and that is Brendan Cole, and I don't know what I am going to do about that... What happens if you win? I have been voting for Chris Parker for the last 7 weeks, but Brendan has stopped me from doing that. I don't expect my future to be on the dance floor, but everyone who is involved has been delighted to be raising money for charity. Can we expect a beautiful outfit on Sunday? There will be a couple of new outfits. I have enjoyed ballroom more than the Latin as it is so soft and graceful. Source |
