Fun takes a back seat as Matt and Flavia begin to feel the heat
Matt and Flavia have had to get serious this week as they struggle to learn the two dances they'll be performing on Saturday night.
Flavia has been ill and Matt has been back on the EastEnders set, which has left them with less time to practise.
'Last week was difficult with two dances, but this week I have to play a character and learn lines!' says Matt. 'Last week my performance wasn't as good as I wanted. I want to bring the quality up, but it's fallen on a week where I'm filming for EastEnders too. It's difficult to divide the time but it has to be done.'
Flavia has put on her serious hat in training this week to make sure the couple get the dances down. 'It's one of those manic weeks, everything's against us and Matt's feeling the stress. This is our hardest week by far, it's the week where we could make the semi-final. We want to be there.'
But despite the pressure, Matt reckons he's still got the edge over the other male celeb left in the competition. 'He's not a threat, I'm not worried about Gethin. It's a competition. I think he's brilliant but I'll let my feet do the talking.'
'Gethin is a very English upper-class Ballroom dancer. I'm a bit of rough, down and dirty. Gethin's Mr Ballroom and I'm Mr Latin.'
Nevertheless, Flavia says Gethin's performance was a bit of a surprise. 'Gethin did an amazing job. Both dances were brilliant, he went out there and showed he could perform,' she says. 'It's a shock as it's all happened suddenly. With Matt it's gradual; he has improved each week. With Gethin it all happened in one week, they have both come far in different ways.'
'The honeymoon of Strictly is over. We've had the easy ride but it's completely changed. We have to produce two routines and it almost feels impossible. I hope it comes together.'
