Around 9.5m people tuned into the first edition of series four of The X Factor on Saturday night - over four times as many as watched DanceX on BBC1.
The BBC1 talent show - whose hopefuls are competing for a place in a new song and dance group - had been shown in an earlier timeslot in previous weeks, but Saturday's semi-final was screened at 7.40, the same time as The X Factor.
However it made little impact on the ITV1 show, with an average audience of just 2.7m.
By contrast, almost half of the Saturday night audience watched The X Factor - which showed the best and worst of this year's London auditions as well as detailing the behind the scenes drama in which Louis Walsh was sacked, then reinstated, as a judge.
The latest series of the show has seen the age limit for participation lowered to 14, while Dannii Minogue has joined Walsh, Simon Cowell and Sharon Osbourne on the judging panel.
Over 150,000 people auditioned for the show, whose first prize is a £1m recording contract.
