Duncan James has slated reality TV music shows saying they exploit talented people and can "mess up" their lives.
The former Blue member, who appeared on ITV's Dancing On Ice earlier this year, believes there are two sides to shows like X Factor.
"They help encourage people to get up and show their talent off which they might not have the opportunity to do. However I think all these artists are exploited," he said.
"Look at people like Rik Waller. All these artists have come and gone and it's kind of messed up their lives really from having a dream and something that they really wanted to work towards to almost feeling crushed.
"But that goes for everything in life - there's always ups and there's always downs."
The 29-year-old also revealed that he didn't plan to do any more reality TV after his time skating, saying: "I've had my stint to last me a lifetime.
"Dancing On Ice was a great opportunity but I don't think I'll be wanting to put myself through anything like that, with that much pressure or that much scariness, again for a long time."
