THERE were special guests as ever at the M.E.N Dairy party on Friday, and then there was one very special Gest. David Gest to be precise. The Broadway producer and reinvigorated star was the toast of the city when he made a surprise entrance to the annual party at the five-star Lowry Hotel at the weekend. And we gave him a proper Manchester party to remember. The annual bash, to celebrate all those people who have made the news in the past 12 months, is one of the highlights of the social calendar. And this year was no exception - with around 600 revellers partying the night away. I'm A Celebrity star David arrived at the bash as a guest of Grease is the Word stars Anthony Kavanagh and Alison Crawford. David, who was a judge on the show, has become great mates with Manchester's own Kav, and the pair are now working on new music material together. So when Kav told David about The Diary bash, he was keen to join in the fun. And it turned out to be quite a night for David, who was famously married to showbiz legend Liza Minelli, not least because stars of his favourite TV show - Hollyoaks were also at the bash. Partying David told me: "I've had a great night, but the best part has been partying with all the Hollyoaks guys. "It's one of my favourite shows on TV, and I got to speak to the Hollyoaks casting director and she says she is going to get me a part on it. "It's just amazing." And our guests certainly made an impression on him. "Everyone has been telling me I've got the real Manchester spirit," he said. "I can't wait to come back - I've coming to the Manchester Apollo later in the year with my own live show, it's going to be great." David joined a raft of celebrity guests at the bash, including stars from hit TV shows Coronation Street, Shameless and Waterloo Road, and stars from the world of music and sport. Happy Mondays legend Bez was at the bash with wife-to-be Monica, and rumour has it that like Mr Gest, they may be getting their very own cameo in a hit TV show. For I hear that producers of Manchester-set Shameless were pleased to hear that the couple are fans of the show - and are looking at whether any roles would suit the pair in the future. Source |
