Noel Edmonds seals comeback
Written by Administrator

Noel Edmonds could seal his comeback at the National Television Awards (NTAs) tonight. Some of the biggest names in TV will attend the ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall.

Deal Or No Deal presenter Edmonds, 57, has never been awarded an NTA, even during the height of his fame.

Now, after making a surprise return to the small screen, he is up for two awards: Most Popular Presenter and Most Popular Daytime Programme for his Channel 4 show.

But the star faces competition from Paul O'Grady, Ant and Dec, Jonathan Ross and Davina McCall for the presenter title.

The former Noel's House Party star is up against The New Paul O'Grady Show, also on Channel 4, This Morning and TV soap Neighbours in the daytime category.

Presenting duo Ant and Dec are up for a record four awards this year - they have already bagged eight in the past five years.

But the pair will not be attending because they are preparing for the next series of I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! in Australia.

They are in the running for Most Popular Entertainment Programme (Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway), Entertainment Presenter, Quiz (Ant and Dec's Gameshow Marathon) and Reality Programme (I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!).

Strictly Come Dancing, The X Factor, Dancing On Ice and Friday Night with Jonathan Ross are also hoping to take the Entertainment Programme trophy.

The pair could end the seven-year monopoly of Chris Tarrant, who is also attending tonight, and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? in the Quiz Show category.

Other contenders are Have I Got News for You? and Jimmy Carr's 8 Out Of 10 Cats.

Former Big Brother couple Nikki Grahame and Pete Bennett go head-to-head for the new TV Contender title, set up to accommodate the emergence of "reality celebrities".

Celebrity Big Brother's Chantelle Houghton, and Carol Thatcher - crowned queen of the jungle in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! - are also on the shortlist.

The nominees for Most Popular Factual programme are Top Gear, David Attenborough's Planet Earth, Bad Lads Army: Officer Class and - for the second time - Jo Frost's Supernanny.

Coronation Street, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks all make it into the shortlist for Most Popular Serial Drama with Corrie fighting to regain its crown from last year's winner EastEnders.

Three US shows stand to pick up an award - Will and Grace for Most Popular Comedy, and Desperate Housewives and Lost up against last year's winner Doctor Who in the Most Popular Drama category.

Sir Trevor McDonald will host the star-studded ceremony at London's Royal Albert Hall, which will also be screened on ITV1, on November 1.
