Musical star Helena Blackman has thanked News readers for their support during her weeks competing on How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?
Last night the 23-year-old, from Locks Heath, Fareham, wowed audiences at Southsea's Kings Theatre as the star guest at its 99th-birthday celebrations.
But the down-to-earth singer – making an emotional return to the Kings, where she first performed 10 years ago – said she didn't feel famous yet.
As the star turn she cut the birthday cake created for the theatre by Heidi's Swiss Patisserie.
But she said: 'I'm not quite a celebrity – not too many people recognise me, maybe about one a day. It's all pretty down to earth.'
And she revealed her mum had kept copies of The News for her while she was in London filming the show.
'I wasn't able to see any of the papers and when I was chatting to my parents every day I did not ask about what coverage I was getting, I was just talking about the show.
'So it was a big surprise when I got home and my mum brought out a stack of papers.
'I'd like to say a massive thank-you to everyone for all their support. This is the first time I've been back and it has been so nice.'
Helena – nicknamed Miracle Maria after nearly being voted off the talent show four times – was pipped to the premier role in a new production of The Sound Of Music by telesales girl Connie Fisher.
Last night Helena wished Connie well, after it was announced the winner would perform all the shows of the West End hit after professional singer Emma Williams, who was lined up to share the workload, quit.
