Who goes fright to top in TV poll

Viewers voted a scary scene from Doctor Who their top TV moment of 2005. The winning clip features a ghostly boy who haunts London in the Blitz - and scares the daylights out of the Doc (Christopher Ecclestone) and his sidekick Rose (Billie Piper).

The frightening scene tops a BBC website poll for a New Year's Eve special which splits 2005 into two-month slots with Dr Who winning May/June.

Racing pundit John McCririck won January/February easily, with his rant for a Diet Coke on Celebrity Big Brother.

March/April went to comic Catherine Tate and baby elephants playing football triumphed in July/August. The return of Phil and Grant Mitchell to EastEnders won September/October - beating Sharon Osbourne's X Factor bust-up with Louis Walsh.

While Dennis Taylor's hopeless Paso Doble in Strictly Come Dancing twirled to victory in November/December.

A show spokeswoman said: "These watercooler moments had the nation enthralled."

2005 TV Moments, hosted by Jonathan Ross, is on BBC1 at 9pm, December 31.
